As I mentioned in a past post (https://writingasiplease.wordpress.com/2012/11/14/a-grandfathers-love/), my paternal grandfather was stationed in Hiroshima, Japan just a couple of months after the atomic bombing. He was there to help clean up, and I believe this contributed partly to his death in 1989 at the age of sixty-four.
While there he took some photos of the destroyed city. I don’t know the soldier featured in a couple of these photos (there are only four that we have, sadly), but it is not my grandfather. I do believe this are new photos of Hiroshima, and I am thinking of donating the original photos to some Hiroshima program out there.
These were taken in October of 1945.
